Peace vs War = Soul vs Ego
As I mentioned in last weeks newsletter, during the first days of the war in Ukraine I had a difficult time writing about it. I decided to wait a week for my shock to settle and my emotions to calm down. I can’t say I’ve resolved either issue completely. Every day there are more shocking developments and every hour the tragedy, devastation, and loss of life are heart-wrenching. However, this blog is not about what is right or wrong about what is happening regarding Ukraine. I do not have the knowledge about military operations, nor do I have a full understanding of the history between Ukraine and Russia. I am a spiritual teacher and thus I look at the world and the people who inhabit it from a spiritual or soul perspective, so that’s what we will discuss.
Listening to the news, we hear so much hate, judgement, and fear on both sides. It shakes us to our core and conjures up all kinds of terrifying potential outcomes, not just for Ukraine and Russia, but also for the rest of the world. The word war is used over and over again and rarely do we even hear the word peace. Peace seems like a distant dream considering how awful the situation is at the moment. However, peace is a quality of our souls and peace begins with each one of us. Fear and all negative emotions that stem from fear, like the ones I mentioned above, are a product of the fearful human ego, and are not things the soul can even comprehend without a physical body and an ego-mind.
So, let’s talk about this. When we make the journey from the spirit world to the earth plane, our soul enters our physical form. All babies are innocent and precious. The ego has not yet emerged and does not emerge until the brain develops more. When we realize that we are not the center of the universe and there are “others” to compare ourselves with, the ego begins to take hold. Once we learn to communicate, our thoughts and perceptions about ourselves and the world may be influenced by the people around us. Hence, the struggle with whom we will choose the listen to, begins. Will our lives be guided by the love of our souls or the fears of our egos, both individual and collective?
Let us first be reminded that our souls are immortal beings, of Divine love and infinite, radiant light. Now, imagine that we are born with a sort of dimmer switch inside of us. When we first come into this world, the dimmer switch is all the way up and our soul’s light can be felt by everyone who is around us. The extended Burrough family recently had a few more babies come into the world and there is a frequent fun term we use which is, “Baby therapy is real!” When we are around babies, we are bathed in the Divine love that created those beautiful luminescent souls. We are captivated by such radiant beings looking out from behind bright eyes that shine with transcendent light.
Hopefully, we are raised by parents who are loving and kind, and they teach us to do the same. They instill in us the truth that we are good enough just because we exist, and that each of us is perfect and exactly what the world needs right now. If we fully embrace those teachings and learn to love ourselves completely our dimmer switch stays on maximum power. We most likely feel an inner peace from our infinite soul that will forever guide our lives.
If on the other hand, if we are raised by damaged humans who teach us the world is a dangerous place and we have to fight for everything we get, we may become mistrustful, lack faith in the goodness of humanity, and be overwhelmed with fear. Perhaps, our parent’s lack of self-love inadvertently transfers their feelings of unworthiness on to us, and our dimmer switch drops lower and lower. Our fearful ego, and the collective ego of the world may rob us of the truth about our inner perfection and leave us afraid of the world and each other. The light in our eyes may darken as well and the peace in our hearts may seem harder and harder to find.
I can’t imagine that anyone has their dimmer switch endlessly on high. Life here is difficult! Challenges and adversities knock us to our knees, shake our faith, and anxiety and fear may dim our light for a while. Yet, if we have learned to listen to the still voice of our soul within, that always comforts us, envelops us with endless love, and encourages us to be the love that we are, we will have hope that all will be well. We may suffer for a while, but eventually we work through our pain, our light shines brightly once again, and our peace returns.
So, what does all of this have to do with the war in Ukraine? Many people hate President Putin and they believe they have good reason to. What he appears to be doing to the Ukrainian people and to their precious land is unconscionable, evil, and cruel. Yet, the lesson for us all is this. Hate in our hearts and hate in our minds does not lead to love and peace. Only love and peace in our hearts and minds will truly lead us there. President Putin seems like a damaged human. A previous US president once said he looked into Putin’s dark eyes and surmised, he had no soul. He does have a soul. We all do. For whatever reason, his dimmer switch seems to be stuck on “off,” and fear seems to drive his life.
We’ve been down this road over and over throughout the history of humanity and it seems never to end. Why? President Putin is merely a symptom of an ego-born defect in the collective human psyche that seems to be passed down generation after generation. Like it or not Putin is part of all of us. To send hate and hostility through the great matrix of light that binds us to each other hurts us all. Yet, we continue to carry hate around, as if it will solve our conflicts, end a certain war, and bring us back to peace.
As we know emotions and feelings are energy. They go out into the world and search for likened energy to attach to, and thus the collective energy of hate continues to build. It doesn’t actually go away even if the war ends, and a country seems peaceful again. That conglomeration of hate energy keeps expanding as we continue to hate. It looms above and around us just waiting for another person, group of people, divisive issue, or world event for it to take up residence in. Then the same cycle starts all over again.
So, what is the answer? The answer rests within each of us. We hold the power to give in to the hateful thoughts or not. If we don’t give in, are we living a fantasy world and ignoring the atrocities that run rampant in our world? No! Of course, we must do all we can to stop the hateful behavior, stop the wars, and hold the perpetrators accountable. Yet, as we do, we dedicate our mind space to thoughts of love and compassion for all people even those who wish to do us harm. Eventually, even the Hitlers and the Putins of the world will evolve and find their light again. Do we want to continue hurting ourselves with hostile, negative, and destructive thoughts that keep us in a Perpetual loop of war vs peace and soul vs ego? Of course, we don’t.
I believe we are finally beginning to understand the tremendous power of our fearful ego-minds. Yet, we are also beginning to embrace how much more powerful is the love of our infinite souls. Human consciousness is evolving and the veil between the spirit world and earth is thinning. More and more of us are heeding the call and joining lightworkers everywhere to help heal our world. It’s working. I believe we will, at last, choose love over hate forever, and the peace of heaven will come fully into our beautiful and glorious earth.
