Life After Death and Mediumship

I know I’ve written about this in the past. However, it seems to be a topic that is never far from our minds as we, at one time or another, navigate the difficult and painful pathway through grief. Losing someone we love to physical death can result in an emptiness and lack of closure that can be hard to endure. We think about them all the time and wonder if they’re ok. Where are they? What are they doing? Are they happy? Do they know what’s happening in our lives even though they no longer reside here physically?

I think it’s fair to assume that more of us, than not, believe or want to believe that, once this physical incarnation is complete, there is another world ready and waiting to welcome us home. As a child, the only view of the hereafter I had was according to Catholic Doctrine, which was very vague. A pious, honorable life was rewarded by entering the glorious heavenly realm. It didn’t seem very appealing, as I envisioned floating around in nowhere land with our Heavenly Father. It sounded boring and lonely. However, the only alternative was punishment for a life of sin. That penalty, of course, was burning in the fires of hell.

I have spent the last 30+ years on an expedition and exploration of the spirit world which I consider to be our true home. Understanding what the spirit world is like, and what souls residing there want to help us remember, lessened my fear of death tremendously. Knowing these things also helped me lead a happier, more peaceful life that is consistently directed by my beautiful soul and team of light. I have read books by many of the best and most talented spirit mediums out there like John Edward, James Van Prague, George Anderson, Laura Lynn Jackson, Bill Philipps, John Holland, and most recently Tyler Henry. I have also personally had my share of glimpses of, and communication with the spirit world and those who have made the transition to other side.

However, I do not consider myself to be a spirit medium. To be perfectly honest, it is not something I would like to do myself. My brief encounters with souls who just show up in my life from the other side are random, unexpected, and mostly unintentional. Sometimes they occur during a massage therapy session I am giving, or late at night when my mind is quiet, making it easier for them to relay their messages. This late night visitation happened a few times for my son-in law who lost his mom very prematurely. Other times, I do intentionally connect with my parents, who have both passed, when I need to feel their energy close, or have some questions I’d like answered. This, however, is quite different from being a legitimate psychic medium.

Every trustworthy and genuine medium I have had the pleasure of learning about, all say the same thing. Mediums, for the most part, are born with the gift. Their brains are different. In some, a physical illness may alter their brain. George Andersen believes his brain may have been altered by a serious childhood illness which resulted in the activation of that part of his brain needed for mediumship. However, most mediums I’ve studied don’t think mediumship abilities are something one can develop. However, we can all learn to improve our intuition and gifts of spirit so that we can connect more with the other side and our team of light. If we practice regular meditation, we may have some success making contact with our deceased loved ones. We may occasionally have souls, who can reach us, at just the right moment, and offer a message for us or for someone else. That’s what happens to me.

Many mediums have had their brains tested while in the process of conducting a reading. They tell us their brains are indeed different. There is a part of the brain that becomes activated in them while connected to the spirit world. Yet, most human brains do not have that ability. Many think it’s sounds like a dream come true to have such a fantastic gift. In a way it is. Most mediums will tell you, they receive great satisfaction knowing they have brought the grieving, a sense of peace and comfort in a way that nothing else can. They also say it’s not an easy life, but they feel a profound responsibility to use their gift to help others heal and continue on with their lives despite their sadness and sorrow.

Mediums are also highly empathic, and thus may often physically experience the actual way a person coming through passed from this world. Those moments can be exceedingly difficult for a medium. If for example, the person died while drowning the medium may experience a feeling of not been able to get air into their lungs. A soul who was murdered buy a gunshot may cause the medium to feel acute pain the area of his body where the person was shot. An incredible medium, I have recently discovered is Tyler Henry. He is one of the most kind, compassionate, and accurate mediums, I have studied so far. On one occasion he brought through a young woman who was shot and killed. Before and during the reading he felt dizzy, foggy and light-headed. After Tyler delivered this woman’s messages, he learned that she was a victim of the mass shooting that happened at a music festival in Las Vegas. She was drinking with her friends before the incident, hence the dizzy, foggy feeling Tyler experienced was from alcohol consumption.

It is also highly emotional and heart-wrenching for a medium to hear and feel the unfathomable, deep and boring pain of a person consumed with debilitating grief. It is exhausting, and if they’re not careful to protect themselves, they may have the painful emotions of others transferred to them. I know this feeling as I am not only a massage therapist but also an Empath. If I don’t protect myself before I treat, I am susceptible to absorbing my patient’s pain, physical, emotional, or mental. I may start my day happy and peaceful, but after a day at work, I may feel angry over nothing personal. It is then I realize or remember that one of the patients I treated was angry, and I unknowingly absorbed it like a sponge. That’s what empaths do if we’re not careful to shield ourselves.

Yet, at the end of the day, these wonderful, gifted mediums have validated, for many of us, the very real existence of the beautiful, transcendent realm where only love exists. There are no politics, races, religions, cultures, or even genders. There is no competition or hidden ulterior motives because communication takes place telepathically. All thoughts are openly communicated in this way as well. Nothing can be concealed. Besides that, souls have no desire to subvert, but only to grow and evolve spiritually. As hard as it may be to believe, there is no judgement for a life poorly lived except perhaps, from us when we pass. However, there are accountabilities, and consequences that result in our need and desire to make right the negative karma we may have caused. Finally, after all of my study, inner work, and communicating with my own team of light, I have found no evidence at all of a hell on the other side. In addition, every medium I have come across has validated this as well.

The spirit world is filled with beauty, far more spectacular than anything we see here on the earth plane. Since we are pure energy, we can create whatever we wish in order to make our transition easier. The beautiful house on the ocean, that my dad dreamed of living while here, is where I see him when I communicate with him, or I think about him now. We can be assured that when our loved ones return home, they’re happy and filled with joy and peace. Yet, they are not in some far-off space, but always close, and they definitely do continue to be part of our lives.

I hope this discussion has helped some of you who may be in the throes of the grief process, others who may be experiencing the very real possibility of an impending death, or some of us who may simply fear death all together. I encourage you to explore some of the mediums listed above and if you choose to go to a medium be sure to have several good references from others. Not all who present themselves as a medium, even those with good intentions, are authentic. Let us listen to our inner mystic, and consult with our team of light, always.
